There are twelve noxious weeds of Nebraska. They are Canada Thistle, Musk Thistle, Leafy Spurge, Spotted Knapweed, Plumeless Thistle, Saltcedar, Phragmites, Diffuse Knapweed, Japanese Knotweed, Giant Knotweed, Purple Loosestrife and Sericea Lespedeza .
Typically, if you take a picture on your phone and we may be able to help identify it.
There is an app that you can get on your phone called Picture This. If you take a picture of the plant it will process it and tell
you what kind of plant or weed it is. There is also a book called Weeds of the Great Plains published by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. This book identifies all Nebraska weeds.
We use Milestone and 2-4-D mostly along the roadside. I use Pramitol and Roundup for bare ground. The best time to spray noxious weeds is when the plant is in its rosette stage. I spray when the wind is calm and it is not to hot, usually in the early morning.
If you are using a non-restricted herbicide you do not have to have a license.
Scotch Thistle was added by Kimball County along with Nebraska State noxious weeds, Musk Thistle, Canada Thistle, Spotted and Diffuse Knapweed.
