REGISTER TO VOTE

There are different ways you can register to vote.  In person at the Clerk's Office or other government offices such as the Department of Motor Vehicles or Department of Health and Human Services. You may choose to do it online with the Secretary of State using the link below.


Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older by the 1st Tuesday following the 1st Monday in November.
  • Must be a United States Citizen.
  • Must be a resident of the State of Nebraska.
  • Must have your civil rights restored if convicted of a felony.
  • Not be legally found to be mentally incompetent.

CANDIDATES

Anyone wanting to run for an elected position must file with the Clerk's Office.


The deadline to file for office for the Primary Election is February 15th for incumbents and March 1st for non-incumbents.


The deadline to file for office for the General Election is July 15th for incumbents and August 1st for non-incumbents.



Non-County Elected Positions

If the filing fee is required to file, please pay the City or Village prior to coming to the Clerk’s office to file. A receipt of payment needs to be presented to the Clerk’s office prior to finalizing filing for office.



Kimball County Elected Positions

One Commissioner is elected on the Presidential election year, and all other county positions are elected on the non-Presidential election years. The County filing fees can be paid at the County Clerk’s office.

Voter Registration

3rd Friday before next election - Last day for voter registration form to be delivered to the election office by someone other than the person registering.  Last day voter registrations can be completed at or returned to State Agencies or Departments.  Last day voter registrations can be completed at DMV.  Last day for on-line voter registration. Postmark deadline for mailed-in registrations.

Early Voting

120 days before election - First day for Election Office to accept early voting ballot request for the election.


30 days before election - Early voting begins in the Election Office. (Monday through Thursday, 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. and Friday 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m.)


Close of business day 2nd Friday before election - Last day to receive an early voting ballot application for ballot to be mailed to a specific address.

Polling is held at the Sagebrush.


Residents who live East of Oak Street are in the 1st Ward.


Residents who live West of Oak Street are in the 2nd Ward.


Residents who live outside of the Kimball city limits between Road 27 West and Road 51 East are in the Antelope Ward.


Bushnell

Polling is held at the Bushnell Fire Hall.


Dix

  • Do I have to show my ID to vote?

    Yes, per LB514 all elections occurring after April 1, 2024, you will have to show your ID to vote.

  • How can I cancel my voter registration?

    We need to have a sign request from the voter to cancel your voter registration. We have a form that you can print off and mail to Election Commissioner.

  • How do I know what precinct I live in?

    A Voter registration card was mail to you when you register to vote that list your precinct. In Kimball if you live East of Oak Street you are in First Ward and if you live West of Oak Street, you are in Second Ward. Antelope precinct is outside of Kimball between Road 27 W and Road 51 E. Bushnell precinct is from the state line to Road 27 W. Dix Precinct is from Road 51 E to Cheyenne county line. You can also check your precinct at https://www.votercheck.necvr.ne.gov/voterview. 

  • How can I register to vote?

    You can register to vote in the Clerk’s office, through the mail, at the DMV, other government offices (ex. Health and Human Services), or online at https://www.nebraska.gov/apps-sos-voter-registration/. 

  • What are the requirements to register to vote?

    You must be 18 years old or 18 years old on or before the 1st Tuesday following the 1st Monday in November. A citizen of the United States of America and the State of Nebraska. You cannot be convicted of a felony or, if convicted, your civil rights have been restored. You cannot be officially found to be mentally incompetent.

  • What time are the polls open on Election Day?

    Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mountain Time Zone.

  • Can I return my Early Voting Ballot to a polling place?

    No, all Early Voting Ballots must be return to the clerk’s office or drop box by 7 p.m. election night.

  • When and how can I request an Early Voting Ballot?

    Early voting ballots can be requested 120 days before any election. You may come into the County Clerk’s office to vote. Mail, fax, or email at request form to the clerk’s office. See link below. A request form will be published in the Western Nebraska Observer or you may write a letter requesting early voting ballots be mailed to you.  We must have your or your agent’s signature on a request form to send you ballots.   • What is an agent for Early Voting Ballots?

    An agent is someone whom you have sign the request form and pick up your eary voting ballots.

  • Is my vote kept secret when I early vote?

    Yes.

  • What are the dates to file for office?

  • Do I have to vote every issue for the ballot?

    No. You may leave any issue or race blank. The voted portion of the ballot will still be counted.

  • If I did not vote in the Primary Election or have not voted for several elections, may I still vote?

    Yes, if your voter registration is current, you may vote like any other voter. If you have any questions concerning your voter registration, please contact the County Clerk’s Office as (308) 235-2241. If your voter registration is not current when you go to the polls, you may vote by a Provisional Ballot.

  • If I have moved in county or changed my name and did not change my voter registration, may I still vote?

    Yes, you may vote by a Provisional Ballot.
